Zach is a second year PhD student in Neuroscience at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, located in New York City. Zach grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, before moving to Macon, Georgia for undergrad. Zach graduated summa cum laude with his BS in Neuroscience and BA in Latin in 2019 from Mercer University, where he studied the neural basis of play behavior in rats with Dr. Katie Northcutt. His graduate research focuses on the structure and function of projections from the primate amygdala to the prefrontal cortex, under the mentorship of Dr. Peter Rudebeck. At Sinai, he is involved in a number of mentorship programs, both for incoming graduate students and at local middle and high schools. Outside of science, Zach enjoys skateboarding around New York, learning to cook new kinds of cuisine, and playing with his two kittens, Stella and Luna.
