Janice is a 3rd year biochemistry PhD student at the University of Pennsylvania (Upenn). She received her bachelors in biochemistry at Cal State Fullerton, and completed a thesis project related to gene regulation and neurodegenerative diseases. Throughout her undergraduate career, Janice served as a high school AVID tutor and organized an after school program for middle school students. Now as a PhD student she is an executive board member of the Latin American Graduate & Professional Student Assembly (LAGAPSA) which advocates for the interest of all Latinx graduate students at UPenn. As a first generation college graduate she values great mentorship and is excited to participate in Project Short. She recently received the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (NSF-GRFP) and is now investigating cancer epigenetic in the laboratory of Dr. Benjamin Garcia. During her free time she enjoys eating delicious food, running, and going to concerts.
